It’s that special time of year – award season – when a number of our students are making us proud as they compete in various national and state academic competitions against top students from other universities. While excelling academically at SJSU, they are also bringing home high marks for their performance at these competitive events.
Kudos to our students in mechanical and aerospace engineering and civil and environmental engineering for their outstanding achievements. Kudos also to our dedicated faculty who mentor these students and share in their success. Mechanical and aeronautics engineering students won a total of six awards at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers District D competitions, held at the University of Nevada, the most winners in the competition. At the 2011 National AIAA Design Build-Fly Competition in Tucson, AZ, students from SJSU’s chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics competed for the first time and placed 13th out of 88.
Civil and environmental engineering students from the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers competed at the 2011 Mid-Pacific Regional Conference, hosted by California State University, Sacramento. SJSU’s steel bridge team was one of two teams selected to compete in the national competition in Texas this month, and concrete canoe and water treatment teams also achieved outstanding recognition.
