SEMI-ANNUAL
E10 DESIGN COMPETITION
Beginning with the fall semester of the year 2000, a design competition will be organized for all SJSU, E10 students. The competitions will take place at the end of each semester (fall and spring). The design project will be announced no sooner than the 5th week of each semester.
Competition Rules
1. Students will compete in teams, to be formed by their instructors in each E10 section.
2. Each
team should have no more than 4 and no less than 3 members.
3. Each team should have at the most one senior
or junior.
The other 3 members of the team must be freshmen and sophomores.
4. Winners will be determined according to the Design
Performance Index (DPI), as follows:
DPI = 0.75 x [product test score] + 0.25 x [design report
score]
5. The product test score will be as follows:
1st place = 100 points
2nd place = 90 points
3rd place = 80 points, etc.
6. Design reports will be graded by
instructors on a scale from 0 - 100 points.
Top 5 reports in the final competition will be graded by at least 2 instructors.
7. The best two
designs from each lecture section will compete in the final competition
to be held in the lobby of the engineering building on
study / conference day (the day after the last day of classes) at the end of the
semester. The winners in each lecture section
must be determined through competition the week BEFORE the last day of classes.
8. SPRING 2003: 1st place team will receive $800,
2nd place team will receive $400, 3rd place team
will receive $300. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will also receive certificates from the College of
Engineering.
Award certificates will be given to all members of the first 3 teams. However, winners will not receive monetary awards unless they are declared engineering majors in good academic standing during the semester following the competition.
