Moving Shocks

Learning Objectives

By the end of this unit, you should be able to:
1 Explain the differences between a stationary and a moving normal shock, steady and unsteady wave motion.
2 Calculate the flow conditions in a shock tube behind the incident and the reflected shock waves.
3 Calculate the speed of the incident and the reflected shock waves in a shock tube.
4 Design a shock tunnel to achieve supersonic flow of a given Mach number in the test section (i.e., select appropriate driver and driven gases, diaphragm pressure ratio, etc).

Questions

Example 1: Supersonic testing inside a shock tube [LO # 2, 3]
