Internships

IMI has a part-time design position to help with mechanical drawings. Position entails coming up with design concepts for various electronics packaging projects and generating drawings. Candidate must be competent in Solidworks (assemblies, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, sheet metal work, etc.) and have a good comprehension of the designing process (some experience would be preferred). Machine shop experience and the understanding of electronics packaging would be a plus. This year, the University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) will conduct its second annual Small Spacecraft Summer Study Program (S4P). Twelve students will be selected to participate in a 10-week program to develop and test ideas for small spacecraft exploration of Near-Earth Objects (NEO) ideas that will ultimately lead to a mission proposal. Students attend lectures, work on team projects, participate in concept design studies, and present their work at a preliminary design review at the end of the summer. Work will be conducted at NASA Ames Research Center under the guidance of scientists and engineers from NASA Ames, UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkely, and UCB-Space Science laboratory. The UARC Systems Teaching Institute is recruiting graduate-level expertise in engineering (electrical, mechanical, aerospace, systems engineering), physics, astronomy, planetary sciences, and business management.
