"When
I'm asked about my educational experience
from SJSU, the answer can be quite subjective.
Nevertheless, one should agree that the
successful years I have had since graduation
(i.e. obtaining an engineering job months
before graduation, enduring through 8 rounds
of layoffs where my group went from 5 to
2, promoted twice, received achievement
awards 5 years in a row... all in 5 years
since graduation) should be evidence enough
that SJSU played a role in helping me excel
in my career.
SJSU required a strong commitment, the lab
classes gave me experiences to remember,
the faculty was knowledgeable, and the campus
libraries fostered a great place to study.
These reasons also drove me to go back to
SJSU for my Masters. If I obtained my BSME
and MSME from SJSU, that should tell you
that I believe in SJSU and so should you..."

"The degree I received
from the SJSU Mechanical Engineering Dept.
is instrumental in my success as a Fire
Protection Engineer working on high rise
building systems design for the US government.
From designing sprinkler hydraulic systems,
fire alarm systems, building automated systems,
to measuring heat transfer through walls
or modeling smoke flow through a building
using a CFD program, the education I received
from the SJSU Mechanical Engineering Dept.
provided me with a strong, solid foundation
and practical hands-on learning which enabled
me to contribute to my organization immediately.
Now, I am preparing to take the California
P.E. examination in Fire Protection Engineering."
-- Allen Tsui, 2003
"The SJSU MAE department
gave me not only a solid theoretical background,
but also prepared me for entry into the
professional engineering world with practical
experiments and hands on projects."
-- Alex Shieu
"My education at San
Jose State University has helped me a great
deal. A lot of the professors at SJSU are
in touch with industry which gave me an
opportunity to learn up to date information.
Currently I am working at NASA Ames Research
center as an instrumentation engineer for
the Arc-jets on many thermal protection
projects such as the Return to Flight, Mars
landers and many more. One important piece
of advice for students would be, to be able
to learn on your own. If you are looking
for an internship this is the place to do
it, there are many internship programs here
at NASA." -- Ricardo Olivares
"The SJSU MAE dept. is
top-notch! Their program did an incredible
job preparing me to tackle real-world challenges,
using both analytical and hands-on approaches.
The skills and knowledge I acquired there
have been paramount to my own success as
an engineer." -- Darren
Seawright "I'm at
NASA/Ames working in the Mechanical Systems
and Analysis Branch. I just finished a small
satellite instrument that employs a new
nano-technology gas sensor. The sensor used
a small silicon chip and nano materials
to measure concentrations of trace gasses.
The hope is that in the future, we will
be able to have dozens of nano-sensors,
each measuring the concentration of a different
gas which would perform the equivalent of
gas chromatography on a chip the size of
you finger nail. In my instrument, the Nano
ChemSensor Unit, I defined the mechanical
system user requirements, designed the gas
metering and delivery system, did all drawings,
all stress/vibration and thermal analyses,
performed extensive prototype testing, wrote
the qualification and acceptance test plan
and ran most of the flight qual tests. We
then delivered one of the three qualified
units for testing to our partners at the
Us Naval Academy at Annapolis, one year
after we began." -- Mark
