Introduction to Interested Students

The Human Factors & Ergonomics Program at San Jose State University is a cross disciplinary program, supported through the university’s Graduate Studies and Research Program. The HFE program provides two tracks of study, one associated with human computer interaction, the second associated with human-system integration in workplace and production system design. In addition, the HFE program allows students to pursue areas of specialization interests across many of the San Jose State University’s many colleges and schools of study. Students can choose specialization in human system integration and design from a computational engineering perspective, software engineering, physical biodynamic and ergonomic perspectives, from integration of human’s in architectural systems to organizational and group behavior in business and manufacturing settings.

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the SJSU HFE program enjoys extensive and significant interaction with information technology from chip production to web design. The HFE faculty and many of our alumni have wide-ranging connections to the valley’s industry and research opportunities. NASA Ames Research Center is also a significant partner in the process of SJSU HFE thesis research support in information technologies, safety, aviation automation and complex system analyses.

The hallmark of our program is a strong theory-based core of education combined with wide availability for specialization, and strong integration into information technology and associated industries and governmental research centers to provide internship, and research support for students.
