GTI 2005 Program

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
As participants in the Global Technology Initiative (GTI), we came back transformed in our international perspective, in our understanding of cross-cultural business, and with broadened knowledge of the realities of globalization. Lifelong friends had been made through laughter and shared awe, lectures and tours of some of the world's largest technological companies gave us new innovative ideas, and we arrived back at SJSU with a new optimism, energy, and drive to become the very best America has to offer. read more
SUMMARY OF PROGRAM
The 2005 program sponsored by the Initiative sent twenty-five top students (consisting of 21 engineering students, 3 business students and 1 humanities student), two associate deans and one professor of SJSU on a two-week all-expense-paid study tour of Taiwan and China from May 31 through June 14, 2005. Taiwan and China were chosen as the destinations for the 2005 study tour (as well as the 2004 inaugural study tour) because of their interconnectedness with Silicon Valley in the high-technology supply chain. The itinerary for the 2005 study tour included Taipei and Hsin-Chu of Taiwan and Beijing, Shanghai and Kunshan of China. The 2005 program had significant components in pre-trip acculturation and post-trip dissemination of lessons learned. Dr. Ahmed Hambaba, Associate Dean of College of Engineering for Graduate and Extended Studies, and Dr. Nancie Fimbel, Associate Dean of College of Business for Undergraduate Studies, co-led the delegation, and Professor Jacob Tsao of Industrial and Systems Engineering was responsible for program planning and execution. Dr. Belle Wei, Dean of College of Engineering, participated in a portion of the study tour.
