MISSION OF THE GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE

For SJSU students to thrive in the highly competitive global economy, it is critical to develop international perspectives and knowledge. In this light, the SJSU Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering has established a $1 million Global Technology Initiative, with the mission of giving SJSU students a global perspective with a focus on technology and business developments in the Asia Pacific region. Donors of the Initiative are business leaders in the high technology industry with strong business ties to Silicon Valley and the Asia Pacific region.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY TOUR

Given the current trend of engineering globalization in the global economy, particularly the trend of outsourcing Silicon Valley manufacturing, development, and design work to foreign countries, the purpose of the Study-tour is to:

Provide (primarily) engineering students of San José State University with a global perspective for engineering and entrepreneurship in the entire enterprise value chain and prepare them for a successful career in this globalization era through:

  • Organized site visits by 25 SJSU students to the Asia Pacific region, with all expenses paid by industrial donors.
  • Dissemination of lessons learned by the students on the study-tour to the rest of SJSU engineering students during their remaining study at SJSU.
