MS Software Engineering, emphasis in Cloud Computing & Virtualization

Services Computing addresses how to enable IT technology to help people perform business services more efficiently and effectively. From a technology foundation perspective, Services Computing has become a foundational discipline in the modern services industry.

The program intends to help participants understand the overall picture of Services Computing, its principles, design, analysis, development, and industry-oriented applications with successful cases. Specially, it will cover major solution architectures and enabling technologies.

Program Educational Objectives:
This program prepares students to master

  • The emerging software development technologies to build robust products and solutions to enable services computing based on service-oriented architecture
  • The latest software engineering processes where large-scale business application design is pre-eminent and system integration is the standard mode of development

Curriculum
The curriculum is designed by SJSU faculty and local industry subject matter experts with expertise in the design, development, integration and deployment. The curriculum is designed to respond to current and future needs in Services Computing. The following is a partial listing of curriculum topics:

  • Cloud Computing
    • Hardware/Software/Platform – as-a-service
    • Scalability, discovery of services and data in Cloud computing
    • Performance, QoS, Cloud SLAs
    • Data centers
    • Content and service distribution in Cloud computing
  • Virtualization-based Environments
    • Principles of Virtualization, platforms
    • Virtualization-aware storage and networking
    • Virtualization of smart mobile phones
    • Virtualization management operations/discovery, configuration, provisioning, performance
    • Energy optimization and saving for green datacenters

Program Structure
The program is designed to give maximum flexibility to any who may be interested. The options range from taking individual courses or an MS degree:

  • Individual Courses – take only the individual courses that interest you
  • MS in Software Engineering, emphasis in Cloud Computing & Virtualization.

Open-Site Program Benefits:

  • Executive style cohort learning
  • Classes held once a week at night and on weekends to accommodate working professionals
  • Flexibility: Students can enroll for just one class as a stand-alone student or enroll for the whole MS SE degree program
