CME Graduate Writing Requirement

All CME graduate students must satisfy the graduate writing requirement (GWAR).  This is a CSU wide requirement.  This must be satisfied before you can enroll in ChE/MatE 281.

You can pass the GWAR if you:

  • Receive a B or better in Engr 200W
  • OR received a C or better in an engineering or science technical writing course as an undergraduate
    • If this was at a CSU, you don't need to do anything. This course automatically satisfies the GWAR.
    • For other technical writing courses, your advisor needs to petition for it to meet the GWAR.  Submit to your advisor a copy of your transcript, the catalog description of the course, and the syllabus.  This must be done at least 2 semesters prior to starting MatE/ChE 281.
  • OR are the sole author on a published technical article.
    • Your advisor needs to petition for it to meet the GWAR.  Give your advisor a copy of the published paper.  This must be done at least 2 semesters prior to starting MatE/ChE 281.

If you have questions, contact your advisor.
