The Cisco 3640 is the industry’s first true multifunction platform with the versatility to support branch/enterprise hybrid dial access applications, LAN-to-LAN or routing applications, and multiservice applications in a single platform. The Cisco 3640 server is equipped with four network modules slots. Dial connectivity is supported with a series of network modules offering Integrated Services Digital Network (BRI), integrated digital and analog modems, very high density asynchronous interfaces, two and four port Voice/Fax, 25-Mbps ATM, low-speed asynchronous/synchronous serial, and hardware compression assisted network modules. LAN and WAN connectivity are provided by a series of mixed-media cards supporting Ethernet, Token Ring, and a variety of density Ethernet and a single-port, autosensing, Fast Ethernet network module. Voice and Fax multi-service applications are also supported with integrated voice network modules and voice interface cards. This gives it the flexibility to meet both current and future connectivity requirements. Our Cisco 3640 offers one module of two “Fast Ethernet” ports for 100baseTX connections and four “Smart" Serial ports. These new compact, high-density Smart serial interfaces support a wide variety of serial protocols (V.35, X.21, RS-232, RS-449, RS-530) when used with the appropriate transition cable. This facilitates easy configuration and re-configuration as network requirements change without the need to purchase a different serial interface card. On the front side of the Cisco 3640, it will allow you to load new system images using a PCMCIA Flash memory card. However, we will load images from a TFTP PC server to each of the routers.
