The Cisco Catalyst 2912 XL is a 10/100 auto-sensing Fast Ethernet switch that can connect workstations, Cisco IP Phones, and other network devices such as servers, routers, and other switches.  They are ideal for delivering dedicated 10- or 100-Mbps bandwidth to individual users and servers.  These stackable switches provide 12 10/100 Ethernet ports to connect to student PCs in the networking lab.  The switches in our lab will primarily be used to create VLANs, or virtual LANs, to logically group router Ethernet ports and student computer ports in any desired combination.  This provides interesting varieties in building different lab topologies.  To simplify access to configurations, each console port of each switch is connected to an asynchronous line on the 2511-RJ to provide out-of-band access.
