Internship and Co-op Programs (for both BS Aviation and BS Industrial Tech Students)
An internship is an opportunity to learn from real industry, teaching, or business experience, in a planned way, that will add to your education and earn academic credit toward graduation.  A student begins an internship by finding a position with an organization that will help expand their education in ways that regular coursework cannot do.  In most cases students find their own positions, although at times they may find help from a department faculty member.  The goals and objectives of your internship should be discussed with your academic advisor.  Most internship positions involve financial remuneration to the student.

Co-op courses (Tech/Avia 197) usually involve paid positions doing tasks that are identified by your advisor and the employer and for which you receive academic credit.  Co-ops sometimes involve full time work and may involve a student taking a semester of leave from their courses.  Other times co-ops are for part time work and students continue their studies alongside the co-op.

The Internship course is Tech 195 or Avia 195, depending on your major.  Approval is obtained by completing the internship application form available in the Department office, IS 111.  Please read the Internship Packet available at this link for more details and information on the Aviation and Technology Internships.  The San Jose International Airport also offers internships to Aviation students through a program administered in cooperation between our department and the airport (see description below).
