Overview of Assesment Process: The School of Engineering at SFSU made a decision early on in the development of its assessment process, to maximize its resources by having similar processes in all three of its programs. An Outcomes Assessment Committee for the School of Engineering, consisting of representatives from all three programs, evaluates assessment data. Data is collected in the form of course portfolios, FE results, sample student work, exit surveys, alumni surveys, employer surveys, and senior projects. An attempt is made to assess all courses in a three-year cycle. Faculty prepare course assessment data and recommended modifications. These are then discussed in faculty meetings. Modifcation proposals can be made by one or more of the following groups: individual faculty, program faculty, chair of program, Outcomes Assessment Committee, or School Dean. Any proposal is reviewed and approved by all of these groups and finalized by the School Curriculum Committee.

Asessment process development: An article by Professor Norm Owen in the Fall 2001 SFSU assessment newsletter Perspectives on Assessment gives a brief summary of the process of the development of an assessment plan.
