Dr. Avtar Singh

 

Dr. Avtar Singh is Professor and Chair of Electrical Engineering Department at San Jose State University. Professor Singh received B.Sc. EE (Hons) degree from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, India; M. Tech EE from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India; ME EE from City College of New York; and PhD EE from the City University of New York. He joined San Jose State University in 1987.


As a professor he has taught and developed several Electrical Engineering courses including courses in the areas of Digital Design, Communication Systems, Digital Signal Processing, and Microprocessors. He has also taught at County College of Morris in New Jersey.
Prior to joining SJSU he served as R. & D. Vice President at Vivix Corporation, Section Head at National Semiconductor, and Senior Engineer at Anderson Jacobson Inc. In industry he worked in the areas of Microprocessors, Data Communication, and Biomedical Instrumentation. His professional experience includes consulting with a number of companies including NASA Ames, IBM, and Alien Technology.


Dr. Singh’s research activity has been in the areas of digital signal processing implementations, biomedical instrumentation, data communication, microprocessors, IC packaging, and radio frequency identification. He has a number of publications including eleven books that have been used around the world. His recent book on digital signal processing implementations has also been published in the Chinese language.  He has served as publicity chair, publication chair, and steering committee member for the Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers.
