Projects Underway by AIAA Students

Design, Build, Fly 2009-2010 | 14th Annual Event

The Design Build Fly competition is an annual event where students design and build a remotely piloted aircraft to meet mission specific tasks which are determined at the beginning of each contest year.

Students from all levels are encouraged to participate in this amazing team opportunity to demonstrate and build upon their skills and talents.

Teams are now forming and regular meetings are being held.

If already a member of AIAA you can view the DBF page on the AIAA google group for notes and meeting updates here.

ARLISS Boosted Dart

The ARLISS Boosted dart is a two phase, semester long project. The first phase is to launch a 3 inch recoverable dart two times the altitude the booster achieves on motor burnout. The prototype dart will be launched at the ARLISS launch event in Black Rock, NV where performance data will be collected and analyzed for the second phase of the project.

The second phase of the project will take the “lessons learned” from the ALRISS Launch event flight to design and manufacture a dart that will reach three times the altitude the booster achieves on motor burnout. Students from all levels are encouraged to participate in this real flight opportunity to gain experience in systems engineering, aerodynamics, structures, and propulsion. The dart will be designed, manufactured, assembled and flown by team members and will be a great resume builder.
