On a beautiful, late September afternoon in San José, the SJSU Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering celebrated the naming of the college and its namesake, Mr. Charles W. Davidson.
With over 300 people in attendance, and the SJSU Pep Band at hand, President Don Kassing and Dean Belle Wei talked to college alumni, friends, faculty, and students about the impact that Mr. Davidson’s gift will have on the university and the college. President Kassing noted that Mr. Davidson’s gift is the single, largest private donation in SJSU history and shares the honor of being the largest, individual gift in the CSU system.
At the college level, Dean Wei explained how Mr. Davidson’s gift will transform the College to educate new engineers to rise to the challenges of the 21st century. The gift will support a new freshmen engineering program, a center for engineering students, and green engineering.
Mr. Davidson talked about the importance of education in his own life and in improving the lives of others. He thanked his family and SJSU for supporting him, and Providence for his great life.
After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed ice cream!
