San Jose Staté University has announced that Belle Wei, Don Beall Dean of the Davidson College of Engineering, has accepted the position of provost and vice president of academic affairs at California State University, Chico, effective August 1.
In a message to the College of Engineering faculty and staff, Dean Wei said, “I am sad because I am leaving you; I am happy because I have known you. For the past 25 years, I have worked with you to build a great college together. We have changed the life's trajectory of tens of thousands of young people from diverse backgrounds, making their dreams come true. I will always carry our shared memories with me no matter where I go.”
Wei has held the position of dean since 2002, succeeding Dean Donald E. Kirk. SJSU Provost Ellen Junn praised Dean Wei’s extraordinary and innovative leadership, which has helped lead the college to national prominence – named among the nation’s top 20 engineering schools for bachelor’s and master’s students.
Electrical Engineering Professor Ping Hsu, former associate dean, will serve as interim dean.
