WANTED: Retired Engineers & Scientists with a Little Bit of Time to Share
When you retire, you may leave the office behind you but your expertise, talent, and experience go with you. And, you may find, that after taking a permanent vacation from committee meetings, conferences, deadlines, emails, and phone messages that you still have a desire to use your skills, to make a difference in a new way.
Why not put your talent and knowledge to good use to a deserving group of students, who can benefit immensely? Why not inspire future engineers and scientists?
RESEED, Retirees Enhancing Science Education through Experiments and Demonstrations, trains and places retired engineers and scientists in middle and high school science classrooms in the South Bay Area. Retirees assist teachers in science experiments, conduct demonstrations of scientific phenomena, and participate in field trips to local science and engineering facilities.
RESEED was founded in 1991 at Northeastern University and expanded to the Silicon Valley area in 1998. To date, RESEED, Silicon Valley, has placed approximately 60 volunteers in local classrooms. It is supported by PS3 – Partnership for Student Success in Science – in the Davidson College of Engineering.
If you are retired, interested in energizing young people about science and engineering, and looking for a personally rewarding experience, please join our next group of volunteers. For more information, contact Dr. Peter Mueller at 650-303-6893 or pklausm@mac.com.
